What to do now Stoptober is over?
It’s been 28 days and the official Stoptober challenge is now over. But what’s next? Whether you managed to stay quit for the whole four weeks or you didn’t quite make it, there’s definitely a positive future out there.
Well done! That’s fantastic. Hopefully you’re feeling ready to keep going after Stoptober and stay smokefree.
During these four weeks you will already have started to see the impact of quitting. All the carbon monoxide and nicotine has left your body, you’ll be finding it a bit easier to breathe and exercise, your senses of taste and smell will be better and your skin will be starting to improve.
Things can only get better, right?! Over the next few months your lung function will improve and your risk of serious health problems in the future will start to go down.
If you have managed to stay smokefree since Stoptober, why not send us a smokefree selfie on Snapchat (+thefilterwales) or let us know on Twitter or Facebook what your motivations were and what tricks you used to keep going?
Almost made it?
Quitting even for a few days is a massive achievement, so well done!
It is a challenge to quit smoking for good and hopefully you are starting to feel like you will be able to do it. If not right now, then soon – when the time is right you.
When you’re ready to try again, it’s a good idea to think about what happened last time. All sorts of things can trigger you accidentally having a cigarette and then another.
Maybe it was when you were with friends who smoke, having a drink or in a place that you associate with smoking. Removing these triggers during the first few weeks of your quit attempt can really help you keep going.

Missed the boat?
That’s ok, you can start your quit attempt at any time that’s right for you.
The best way is to set yourself a date when you’re ready to quit, and take it step by step. Challenge yourself to a week and then see if you can manage 2 weeks, then 4, then forever!
As always, if you need a helping hand or you have any questions, give us a shout.
